Sappi Boeke-Crawl at Sudwala
The annual Innibos Lowveld National Arts Festival is a highlight on the Lowveld
events calendar, and this year Sudwala Lodge, Pierre’s Restaurant and Sudwala
Caves hosts the very popular Sappi Boeke-crawl.
The Sappi Boeke-crawl is like a pub crawl but with a difference! Here 240 patrons
(80 per session) crawl from one location to another to listen to readings by wellknown
Afrikaans authors, as well as music that compliment the literature.
The first stop this year will be at the Sudwala Lodge where travel writer and columnist
Dana Snyman will read some of his essays and stories he gathered on the winding
roads countrywide. The music and songs of Mathys Roets will help create the perfect
atmosphere. Crawlers will enjoy a light meal from LaFere Restaurant, accompanied by a selection
of Van Loveren Wines.
Then it’s up the hill to Pierre’s Restaurant where crawlers will be spoiled by something
sweet for dessert, while Paul Eilers, a well known Afrikaans voice artist and
actor, will read some classic Afrikaans short stories.
The Hummingbirds, a local Lowveld group of female vocalists is known for their humorous nostalgic tunes and are bound to be a big hit.
The last stop will be in the heart of the Sudwala Caves, after crawlers have warmed their
throats with Van Loveren’s Red Muscadel.
Daniel Hugo, poet laureate, will read some of his poems. He shares the stage with Laurika Rauch, an artist that is a
legend in her own right.
With Dana Snyman, Mathys Roets, Paul Eilers, The Hummingbirds, Daniel Hugo and Laurika Rauch this promises to be a night to remember.
